*CHHATRAPATI SHIVAJI MAHARAJ IN NEW YORK....*
*By : Kiran Narsale*
I see you are little confused with the above line; Yes,I am sure you are. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, a legendary figure who inspired millions across the country and worldwide by his sheer grit and spirit, a noble king who lived for people, founded in the sublimal idea of Swarajya and denied to bow down to slavery yet went to establish his kingdom from here to Jini , in the far corner of down South.
Wait before you announce that ' I have read it all ' post, as I am going to provide something that makes this Legendary figure as a Noble king, savior of deprived, a staunch supporter of Freedom to all and greatest Military General, along with synonyms for extraordinary ,Shivaji Maharaj is undoubtedly one of the finest specimen of Management Guru who instilled in us hoardes of rules for ideal governance.
So let me give you some vital management tips of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj...
Leadership: Lead from Front.
The famous battles at Pratapgadh with ferocious Afzal Khan and his commando raids at Lal Mahal ( better call it ' Surgical Strike ') to push out Shahista Khan from Pune are few examples of leading from front ;
though we all are aware of the fact that Shivaji Maharaj has his imposter Hiroji Farzand( who replaced him in Agra escape). He preferred to face the battlefield rather than giving orders from his fortress, enjoying luxury of food, wine and music, like most of his foes would do.
He is defined by Historian Yadunath Sarkar as' a mere presence of Shivaji Maharaj on the battlefield was like Cavalry regiment of 50000 ' , as same goes with Napoleon Bonaparte. They have few things in common. Both fought from the front and with mammoth enemy forces in comparison with theirs, still claimed glorious victories over.
Flawless Planning and Execution.
Agra escape is the most pre-eminent precedent of his political acumen and absolutely flawless Planning.
Here I would like to put up that before he escaped out of Agra and clutches of dreaded Mogul Aurangzeb , he made it sure that all his men went out safely. His Guerrilla tactics were extremely successful and his colossal knowledge of demographic information about formidable Sahyadri mountains made life miserable for his enemies. Point to mention that even after his untimely death and assassination of Sambhaji Maharaj by Aurangzeb, with no king , no throne and no guidance, still Marathas went to fight Moguls for 18 years;
all because of Sahyadri mountains aka General Famine and General Winter of famous German-Russia war.
Power comes with authority.
His 8 Council of ministers were extremely competent and got virtuous amount of powers to run the government. Just look at Shri. Moropant Pingle, who would draw sum of 40 lacs( according to present salary) for his contribution. Retention was inevitable ; just look at the comaredes of his:
Tanaji to Baji Prabh every single soldier would die for the cause ; when you are working for a King who would personally take care of the deceased family made them to offer their lives in the line of duty.
SWOT analysis:
After his arrest at Agra he was left with only 17 forts, as the rest were surrendered before the Moghuls, but after his return to his capital, within next 10 years his count of the forts were 260.
It demonstrate us, he must have done SWOT analysis to determine how he can get back to lead and manage to get back everything possible.
He was so farsighted that he shifted the Capital city to Raigad after the seige by Raja Jaysingh.
Ideal Idea of Swarajya:
A state where no discrimination on the basis of caste, gender, colour religion and politics , his entire staff was selected purely on the basis of qualifications and skills, obviously no place for ' अपने गाव का है, अपने जात का है...' his belief in his men was such that his personal staff consisted of many Afghans, Moghuls and others. His raid on Afzal Khan was a party of 10 Elite Commandos, including one Afghan named Sidhi Ibrahim Khan. He knew that though he belongs to different race, still he had kept immense amount of faith in his each one.
The training of his army was superior then his enemies and the instance of Pratapgadh battle were all 10 men of his survived where as Afzal Khan and his men were killed in the combat, it proves the combat skills.
Abilities have nothing to do with oppertunities:
Without any background nor support Shivaji Maharaj went on to create a magnificent kingdom where everything was conducted by the rule of law and order. No enemy land was destroyed so no damages done for crops, cattles.
Women and children were always left unharmed. Look into the cases of Ranjya , a small town and famous Kalyan' s beautiful daughter in law.
Not a single reference where his army would do anarchy and would be left without punishment. He was known to punish his own men for misconduct with women. For welfare of farmers he had we loans for them. His army was receiving salary regularly and that was the one reason of retention
. He was so righteous with understanding pyschology that he played with his enemies over and got them defeated. But he never went cynical about them. After the killing of Afzal Khan, his dead body was laid down with protocol and respect.
Reformation of society:
First to compile 1200 words dictionary for users, made specimen of around 80 types of business and Official letters, so his administration can run smoothly. Would disguise and mingle around with commoners to know about his rule. It is documented that everyday he would go to his stable and pray for the wellbeing of his horses with a shlokas. 300 miles of cost line and 300 ship yards made his navy formidable.
Blueprint for ideal governance:
His intelligence were way beyond his enemies and that gave him advantages at many times. When he went to Surat, he had a complete blueprint for each one of the richest people and where to find out the valuable.
Media Baron: Publicity Campaign
Somalian Pirates were the headache for merchants visiting Deccan plateau. Once his navy captured few Somalian Pirates, they were punished with extreme severity. One meal and 12 hours of hard work. When left after two years of hardships, these Somalians went back to every port warning others to avoid troubling Merchants Deccan region.
For development of Society he paved way for spiritual growth through Sant Tukaram and Ramdas Swami. His mission and vision statement is attached with the emblem of Swarajya.
Still wondering about Shivaji Maharaj and New York...
On the fringe of New York City area there lies in the elite Defence Academy at West Point. West point defence academy , known for producing great American Generals with a long history from General Patton, MacArthur and many more. This Academy gives training of strategic planning in warfare, tactics and execution .
To explain their elite members they have made Sand Models of classic battles. Out of several, two are significant to put here.
1) Model of Pratapgadh battle of Shivaji Maharaj and Afzal Khan.
2) Bajirao and Nizam Ul Mulk at Palkhed.
So now I hope you are free from the state of confusion about the title.
The time has come to see the Great King Shivaji Maharaj makes his way into IIM, DRDO and all the streams of education and eventually making it into the lives of every Indian.
JAI BHAVANI, JAI SHIVAJI, JAI BHARAT!!!
